I've been playing Battlefield 3 since Thursday and the last few days the sound would cut out randomly. It comes back on when i restart but will then randomly cut out again. I've read the other post with similar issues but the way he resolved this problem doesn't work for me.

I'm only using the realtek onboard audio but it's been working for 2 years and only had this happen since I started playing BF3. I've update all the drivers and it still happens.

Could the onboard sound be dying? If so should i get a sound card and will this fix the problem. Also, can you get soundcards with usb outputs as my headset is usb.

Thanks in advance.

Okay now the sound sometimes cuts out after a restart even if I don't play BF3. I restarted and went to watch a youtube vid and there was no sound. I forgot to say that the last week watching youtube videos the sound would randomly get all distorted about halfway through a video every now and then. Doesn't look too good. Once again I think it might be the onboard audio dying and I'm hoping getting a cheapo soundcard will fix it.

If that's the case does anyone know if you can get soundcards with usb output. Look forward to hearing what you guys think.

Well, if everything was truly fine until you installed BF3 there's a chance that it could have somehow molested your audio drivers or something else in Windows that's affecting audio. Are you getting the same thing with both headphones and speakers?
