Helping me pick the right processor for my computer!

Hello, i have a 5 year old computer and i changed most things with it, but i need help with the processor. I have a DualCore Intel Pentium D, 2800 Mhz. The things i would like to know is what kind of a socket do i have so i could find a good processor. My mother board is
Motherboard Name Intel Cortez D945GCZ (2 PCI, 1 PCI-E x1, 1 PCI-E x16, 4 DDR2 DIMM, Audio, Video, LAN)
Please help me with this and thank you!

Socket LGA775. Is it a genuine Intel motherboard or one from a Gateway computer? The Gateway version only supports Pentium D processors.

thank you, yeah i have a gateway computer. you think i can get a good new processor? or i need a new motherboard..

You need a new motherboard, processor and memory.

If you want something up to par with today's computer, I suggest don't bother upgrading this old gateway, instead, build a new one with just a little more money.
