Which extra fans for NZXT Phantom?

Hey guys,

Thanks to all who helped me out in my previous post, I decided to go with the Empire look (hyped for The Old Republic ;) )

I'm running an i5 2500k, and 2 6970's CF, so I need good cooling!

I'm going to get the NZXT 200mm fan for the side door:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835146007

My question is do I need any other fans for my rig besides the 200mm one? Theres the one on the front panel on the bottom, near the drive bays, and there's the one on the other side of the case, behind the motherboard tray. Do I need to get fans for there too?

If I do get a fan for the other side/front, is this a good fan?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...roogle-_-Case+Fans-_-Cooler+Master-_-35103077

Also, am I installing these fans into the fan controller on the case? How do I go about doing that?

Or is this completely unnecessary and the 3 fans in the case enough and I don't need any extras? Thanks guys!

You need Fans (Speaking from a person with a Phantom)

Buy a NZXT 140mm fan for the front, and 1 more Silent 200mm for the top, either that or you can buy two Performance 200mm to replace the top which is more of a benefactor in terms of air flow.

If you did that and bought a H100, it would benefit it in a Push and pull setup.

I do agree with dirtyferret on the side fan part though, it's totally useless.

Make it pretty

and if you want to make it look better, add some matching blue lights, or in my case, red.

Blue looks nice too..

Your Phantom came with a windowed panel? Or is that a mod? I'll probably get blue

It's a mod, extremely cheap mod. U-Channel rubber for like $5, Scotch Clear Tape $5, Acrylic Sheet $14, and a good Dremel with a steel cutting blade.

Had to mod the lights too. Probably spent $40-$50 on mod's alone.

It's a pain in the ass to mod, don't waste your time. (speaking with experience)

Blue looks good, +1.

Nice, I don't have time for case mods unfortunately, and I'm only a beginner. It does look amazing though I might add.

I am going to be getting a Corsair H60 for my cpu cooler. I'm going to follow your advice as to getting a 140mm fan in the front-bottom of the case(would 120mm work there) and another 200mm fan for the top. Would I still benefit from a push/pull config that way? And should those fans(attached to the radiator) be intake or exhaust?
Thanks!

I'd say don't go cheap, and get a 140mm instead of a 120mm for the front, i doubt the 120mm would even fit anyhow.

As for the H60, I believe you can't install it underneath the top 200mm's (could always mod it or find a way), but it would be better off it you put it in the back with two 120 or 140mm fans (whichever the H60 uses) for better cooling.

Just find a way to make the H60 have room so your motherboard isn't blocked. As for the Top 200mm's, you'd have to buy NZXT 200mm's either Silent or Performance, other 200mm's won't fit this case as you may already have known. Since you already have one performance 200mm already reinstalled, get another 200mm silent (blue led edition) on the NZXT Website or on Newegg. The Performance fan made by NZXT, about 80% of them has issues with either the bearing or motor issue inside the spinners that have a rattle sound. You will not get this issue though with the Silent version.

I actually just changed my mind and decided to go with the Antec Kuhler 620 :p its cheaper and keeps my cpu cooler according to reviews. Does the same thing here apply? So I'll have to install my fans and radiator behind the case and feed the tubes through the grommets to the outside? If I install it on the outside, I wonder if I should still make those fans intake.

Hey. I know this post is kind of old, but i also just bought one of these cases ( and love it) do you think it is safe to have sitting on carpet? it just has the stock fans it came with and the mesh on the sides and top. So im thinking it shouldnt get any hair or anything inside of it. Just getting some opinions, i dont see any harm in it being there
