hi, I'm using windows xp.

At the lower right corner, I always get the LAN not connected icon (the one with the red X)

I checked device manager and everything was working fine, including my LAN card.

I checked all connections, made sure they were on tight, but still the error icons were there.

Could a reformat solve the problem? thanx.

That motherboard only has 1 network card so I'm going to assume that is the only one you have (please correct me if I'm wrong). Are any lights lit on the network interface? If not try a different network cable.
What is at the other end of the network cable? A modem, router, etc?
If you are plugged into a router try a different port.

Yes, I have 2 nics, though that never was a problem until now.

I just took out the expansion nic (my motherboard has an internal nic) but still the same problem.

The internal nic has no lights to indicate if it's working so I have no idea whether it does.

Yes, it is connected to a router, though that never was a problem before.

I tried the LAN cable to my other pc (which has no network problems and can get internet through the router) and still the same problem.

thanx.
