Hi everyone!
Could someone please tell me what intel processors today are better than the q960? And which one should have very similar performance to it?

Thanks guys! :)
Can i have suggestions on a motherboard that supports Sandy Bridge, with a good price. Also i wont be overclocking anything so it doesnt have to be anything over the top.

Why no overclocking? You are ignoring a LOT of free power there. There is as much difference in a standard 2500K vs. an overclocked 2500K as there is between your current CPU and a 2500k.

The Q9650 is no slouch, but it is a couple of generations behind now. You could overclock it and not be all that far behind the current CPU's.

The difference from the Intel® Core™ 2 Quad to a quad core 1st generation Intel Core i5 or Intel Core i7 processor was about 15% to 20% performance improvement and then going from the 1st generation to the 2nd generation Intel Core processors could yeild another 10% to 15% all at the same clock speed.

Cause i dont feel confortable with it, and i am scared i mess up as i never done it. Also my psu is on its limits, and it might go overboard.

Thank you for clearing that up.. so what i understanding is that there is a 20-30% jump from the quads to these sandy bridge ones.. seems alot.

Can anyone tell me opinions on the Intel Core i5-2390T? I know it is not as good as the rest (only 2 cores), but as i need to buy a new motherboard and memory i cant get anything too high end for now.. leave it for a future update. And will it outperform a q9650?

The 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processors including the Intel Core i5-2390t uses a socket 1155. The big thing with the "T" processors is that they designed for a thin form factor case like a HTPC. This processor only has a TDP (Thermal Design Power) of 35w that is almost 1/3 of the normal 2nd generation Intel Core i5 processors. So you can move away from lots of fan noise and have a smaller power supply.

From the Q9650 to the next generation of processors, such as the i5-750 or i7-920, the chip is approximately 15% more powerful at the same clock speed. From the i5-750/i7-920 to the new sandybridge chips there is approximately another 15% more power at the same clock speed. So from the Q9650 to the 2500k there is roughly 33% more power at the same clock speed.

But that is only part of the story because the newer processors start at higher clock rates and can turbo boost even more.

The Q9650 runs at 3.0GHz. The 2500k runs at 3.3GHz, up to 3.7GHz in some conditions. At 3.3GHz that is 10% higher clock rate, and then consider the 33% more power and the 2500k is at least 46% faster than the Q9650. Of course you can overclock the Q9650 to approximately 4.0GHz which would put it very close to the power of a stock 2500k.
