The Hitachi 7K100 (7200 RPM 100gig 2.5" hard drive) is supposed to be
shipping.

Anyone seen them for sale and in stock anywhere yet?

Hi Richard -

The part number has shown up "in stock" at http://www.zipzoomfly.com ...

.... except the capacity is listed as 60GB on both the summary and product
detail.

Could be they cut & paste the 7K60 or ???

Specific URL:
http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/Prod [...] e=100519-3

Looked at the link.. here's the really weird part:

"With its 100 GB capacity (this model is 60GB),"

The 7K100 is made in several configurations the largest of which is 100GB.
They did the same thing with earlier Travelstar drives too. The 40GN
came in 20GB, 30GB, and 40GB sizes, iirc.

Yeah, there's a 40G 7K60 as well. Dunno if it's a way to get around
yield problems or just ship a less expensive drive, but you gotta
watch out.

Okay, now I get it.

So I have to search for 7K100 100gb.

What vendor do you think would have a new Hitachi model drive first?

Beware of the E7K100; it's intended for blades and servers and doesn't
implement the active idle and low power idle modes.

Some vendors were trying to sell the E7K60 for laptop use too.

Keep checking with newegg.com and zipzoomfly.com, if I hear of them
available anywhere else you'll be the 10th or 11th to hear about it. ;-)

James

I'd watch CDW, NewEgg, and ZipZoomFly. Let us know what you find, I
was looking for one, but got a Seagate 100G 5400RPM drive from NewEgg
for $170 when my 7K60 blew up after 14 months of service.

Thanks - that's the best offer I've gotten.<g>

I've had good luck with Computer Giants in the past, as well.

I got a Toshiba MK1032GAX 100 gb 5400 RPM drive a couple months ago. It
has a 16 mb cache.
