Hello,

I am looking to upgrade the memory on my laptop to 16gb (DDR3 1600 - 8 x 2). On newegg I found a bunch of them starting at $95 to $150 with CAS latency ranging from 9 to 11. Brands G.Skill, Corsair, Kingston.

I did try to read some material on the latency but could not follow completely. And the G.Skill there is cheapest Corsair seems midrange and Kingston expensive.

Can someone advise me if the $20-$50 premium for the brands Corsair and Kingston is really worth it ? And the latency difference between 9 /10 / 11. How much difference does that make ?

The purpose of upgrade is not gaming but a lot of multitasking.

Please advise.

Thank you

When you say it will wait 5 clock cycles, does it mean 5 cycles out of 200 Mhz per second ? So from that there should not be much difference between 9 and 10. So I will stop worrying about the CAS Latency.

Now the other question G.Skill vs Corsair Vs. Kingston.

In the memory FAQ, there are 7 classes. (Performance Modules, OEM or third party, Major Original etc).

Where G.Skill, Corsair and Kinsgton fall in that classification ?

Are they all equally reliable ?
