On the general topic of LCD screen (aspect-ratio) "stretch", is it possible to adjust the aspect ratio with software so that displayed photos are not stretched, even if everything else (text, tables) is? Obviously, coders could use .JPG, .GIF, .PNG, etc. as a basis for distinguishing photos from other elements.

Running 1280x1024 at 80H, 75V

After looking through related posts, I gathered the problem is likely to be resolved simply by using the native resolution for the monitor. Once I changed from 1280-1024 to native 1440x900, all was well-- the monitor automatically adjusted to 56 kHz Horizontal and 60 Hz Vertical scan rates, and I got a 60 HZ refresh rate.
