I am planning on buying 128meg strip of SDRAM to add to the memory I already have. I am not sure what speed my current memory is though, will it matter if the new memory is 7.5ns and the current memory happens to be 8ns? If so, is there a utility somewhere that can tell me what the speed of my current memory is? My motherboard is a FIC-SD11
go to www.google.com and look up the utility DIMM_ID.EXE.
It reads the ROM serial of the SDRAM and returns the informatio to you. I use it to identify RAM. I have some doubts as to its accuracy though.
Dowload SANDRA from cnet.com or wherever you happen to find it. It will tell you specifc info about your system including your RAM. My guess is it's pretty accurate as I see it used in benchmarks all the time.
I second what was said above about speed, you can only go as fast as your slowest part.
