I can't find BG1 in a store, and was going to order it from the Internet
(it's only about $10). But first: does it work on Windows XP?

It works better on Windows XP than on anything else!

FYI I heard there is a single DVD edition of BG1.

I've seen a "BG1 Saga" that comes in a white box and has only 2 or 3
CD's, and includes Tales of the Sword Coast. If you can find it, it
would be great -- less disks, faster install, probably fully patched
too.

yes, and don't pass it up, it has a certain atmospheric quality that is
just not there in Neverwinter Nights.

KING HENRY V
We would have all such offenders so cut off: and we give express charge, that
in our marches through the country, there be nothing compelled from the
villages, nothing taken but paid for, none of the French upbraided or abused in
disdainful language; for when lenity and cruelty play for a kingdom, the
gentler gamester is the soonest winner.

HENRY V Act 3 Scene 6 William Shakespeare

BATES
Ay, or more than we should seek after; for we know enough, if we know we are
the kings subjects: if his cause be wrong, our obedience to the king wipes the
crime of it out of us

WILLIAMS
But if the cause be not good, the king himself hath a heavy reckoning to make,
when all those legs and arms and heads, chopped off in battle, shall join
together at the latter day and cry all 'We died at such a place;' some
swearing, some crying for a surgeon, some upon their wives left poor behind
them, some upon the debts they owe, some upon their children rawly left. I am
afeard there are few die well that die in a battle; for how can they charitably
dispose of any thing, when blood is their argument? Now, if these men do not
die well, it will be a black matter for the king that led them to it; whom to
disobey were against all proportion of subjection.

That's the White Label release - I've only seen it on second hand at Amazon
within the last few months. I was hoping to get my hands on a copy...

True. BG1 has still got to be the best there has been given its release
date. Sure graphics has got better and interfaces slicker but this was
really a cornerstone of the genre.

There was a thread in comp.sys.ibm.pc.games.rpg claiming that the
current issue of PC Gamer (special D&D 30th Anniversary edition) comes
with the full version of BG1 on DVD.

Not in the issue I got. Just a regular CD, but no BG1.

When my dad bought a new computer, a DVD with BG1 on it came
wiht it. But that was specific to that computer and OS. The
other games that came with it (on CD's) wouldn't work
anymore after a reinstall of Windows. So I have a DVD
version, but I don't think it'll work anymore.
