When do new video cards come out?

Hello, I'm building a computer right now. I was looking at purchasing two of the XFX HD-687A-ZNFC Radeon HD 6870 1GB 256-bit DDR5 PCI Express 2.1 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card with Eyefinity - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814150506

This card is what Tom's hardware recommends; however, this card has been out for a while, so I was wondering if I should wait until something new comes out to replace it.

Instead of buying two 6870 I would recommend buying just one more powerful card like the 6950 2gb, or a gtx 570, so you can crossfire(sli) another later.

that xfx 6870 says DDR5. the title is about the same on buy.com too. Is that a typo? Is there even anything like ddr5? is ddr5 better than gddr5?

how would it compare to:

because i think this other one would be a better buy seeing it has 2 fans and says GDDR5 as opposed to DDR5

a few months ago. around mid november 2010. the card should last 2-3 years if you don't mind to lower some details on your game. but if max in-game setting is a must maybe around a year.

DDR5 is GDDDR5, there is no desktop equivilant of DDR5, it was developed as GDDR5 by the graphics industry for the graphics industry, same with GDDR4 and DDR4, they are interchangable because DDR4 does not exist. Anytime you see GDDR5 or DDR5 they are the same.
