I have a DELL INSPIRON 531s and i was wondering if an Nvidia Geforce 9500GT would be compatible with it
other info: Power Supply: 250watts and 12V/ 17Amps

Your GPU of choice requires a 350w PSU. It may work with your Dell PSU, but it will put a heavy load on the system and will likely shorten the life of your PSU. You can always upgrade your PSU as well.

Not unless the card you are looking at is a low profile version. Here is such an example of an ATI card in that format:

I use this same GPU in a Shuttle XPC system with a 250w PSU with no issues. Worth checking out. Very good performance for the cost.

so that card needs 350w yet you use it with a 250w power supply? i dont see how your computer has blown up yet.

I have a low wattage CPU, a slow spinning HDD (5400 RPM), and no OCing of any sort. The only time I have had any sort of issue was when too many USB devices were attached (drawing too much power from the system). I simply manage the power of the rig.
