Foolish roadblock trying to swap RAM... (Gateway FX6000-01e)

I can't open the case... I've removed the screws securing the side panels and neither side will budge. I've tried pushing down and out, up and out, and simply pulling straight out but nothing works. What stupid mistake am I making? I just need 2 gigs of additional RAM to run Skyrim and this is seriously the step that stumps me? Disgusting with myself haha.
