quad core is better for design, gaming, and multitasking.

dual core may be a tiny tiny bit quicker performing single tasks, but that insignificant advantage is not worth it.

Quad core is better for playing games and you won't really see THAT much of difference between .4 GHZ.

Ok hope that helps. Like I said your only looking at a .4 GHZ difference not 2.0+ Ghz.

a 2.4 ghz Core2 eats a 2.8ghz Phenom x4 for breakfast..........

Not really - more like a 2.8 GHz Core i3 eats a 2.4 GHz Athlon X4

Laptop , destop , intel or AMD ? A bit more info would help . I have a x-9000 2.8 ghz dual core and the intel 2.2 Quad eats it in most all areas .
What will you be doing with this computer ?

Sounds like a q6600 and a e6300 or e5500 either way take the quad.
