the isue is that when i go into the setting for the ethernet adapter in windows 7 64 that it says my speed is 100 mbps. i dont know if this is normal or not but the specs on the mobo say it can do 1000 mbps which i guess i would prefer? is this possible or beneficial?

Solution
Yes the network adapter on your MOBO will support 10/100/1000 mbps; however, it depends on the network equipment you are connecting to. If the switch or router only support 10/100 mbps, then 100 mbps will be the fastest speed the NIC can connect at.
