Hey,

I've been looking at my temps for the past few months and they've been really hot. I decided to pick up a new case (Corsair Carbide 400r) which solved my GPU heating issue, but not my CPU issue.

My CPU is a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9300 at standard clocks. It has Artic Silver 5 thermal paste applied with a MassCool heatsinc on it (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168...). I've reseated the heatsinc several times to no avail. The thermal paste is on correctly.

The ambient temp on SpeedFan is temp1, right? According to that it's 20*c. Temp 2/3 are similar (below 30*c). I've got pretty good circulation with two front 120mm intake fans and one rear 120mm fan. It's winter in the house, and I'm next to a window/wall, making the room temp around 60-65*F (15-20*c).

CPU-
IDLE TEMPS:
51-55*c
51-55*c
41-45*c
51-55*c

UNDERLOAD:
60-63*c
62-63*c
52-54*c
62-64*c

GPU-
IDLE TEMPS:
35-45*c (lower side)
UNDERLOAD:
60-65*c

CPU: Q9300
GPU: 9800gt
PSU: Thermaltake PurePower RX 600watt
Case: Corsair Carbide 400r
Mobo: G33m05

Try Core Temp. Honestly I only use SpeedFan because its the only one that properly registers my Q600 G0 but for the 45nm Core 2s Core Temp is better.

If anything, you might just have gotten a stuck senseor on the CPU.

Here are the temps with core/real temp.

They're about the same. I don't think it's a broken sensor.

Those are not excessive temps for an Intel CPU.

Yeah to be honest a 64'C temp under load isn't very high at all. Also, that cooler isn't too awesome at all, I wouldn't expect any better cooling than you would get with a generic or stock HSF.

They are for idle. Intel CPUs tend to idle around 30c, even with the stock cooler.

And considering he has an aftermarket cooler, it looks like something is amiss. I would try reseating the heatsink according to the AS5 website:

Agree with the concensus, I wouldn't worry about those temperatures. Just make sure the computer is well dusted and I think you are probably safe.

Also your GPU temperatures are completely acceptable, under load it is not particularly uncommon to see up to 90 degrees...Tom's didn't have temps for their last benchmark of the 6970 that I could see, but this site does and a range of other cards: http://www.legionhardware.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_r...

edit: I also don't know why I thought you posted about the 6970, but meh, it is still a good illustration.
