First of all, I am pretty new to computers. I only recently started to "fix" my computer a couple weeks ago, with vague ideas of what to do.
My computer doesn't actually restart randomly, it only restarts when I shutdown from Windows. Also, when I use the power button on the case, the computer turns off but with a problem. First, I have to unplug and plug-in the power cord, then the power button works again. The restart button (both on Windows and on the case) works fine.
So I am wondering what the problem is? Is it a power supply glitch? Motherboard? Or hopefully it is just the OS (which I plan on upgrading from Windows XP 32-bit to Windows 7 64-bit)?
My motherboard: Abit IN9 32X-MAX LGA775 4 DDR2 DIMM RAM
My motherboard chipset: nVIDIA nForce 680i SLI (C55XE)
Also, I did some searching prior to posting this. I have tried rewiring (not really, more like switching around) the computer case's PWR and RESET cords. I read this fixed someone's restart problem, but didn't work for me.
Majority of the restart after shutdown problems were OS related (in the searches), however I am not so sure for my case.
