I just bought a Pioneer 4400hd stereo for my truck with new Alpine Type S speakers (SPS-610s in front, SPS-510s in rear). They sound great but it just feels like it is missing something. I am going to buy an Alpine MRP F300 amp and I was wondering what amp install kit would be best? Do I need 8 gauge or can I go with 4? I currently don't have a subwoofer but I may buy another amp and a subwoofer in the future.
From personal experience car stereos rarely end with 1 amp. With 2 amps run 4 gauge wire from the battery to a splitter, then 8 gauge to an amp. 4 gauge will be good for around 900 watts. It's actually rated for about 100 amps so 1200 watts/12v. I always oversize a little bit. Get good speaker wire, a 14 gauge would be plenty. When running the rca, remote, and power wires try to have the power on one side and others on the other side. A decent two amplifier kit is: http://www.crutchfield.com/p_575RFK4D/Rockford-Fosgate-...
It's pretty overpriced for what it is though. You could probably buy everything separately and save $60.
Now if you only plan on the one amp then an 8 gauge would be plenty.
