More ram or faster ram?

I am upgrading to a 1 Gig Thunderbird processor. Would it be better for me to have 128 Megs of DDR ram or go with 256 Megs of 133? I already have 128 Megs of PC-133 ram, but can only afford to buy 128 Mb of either type of ram. Either way, I have to buy a new Mobo. My main computer usage is for animation (Lightwave 3D). TIA

I would opt for 128 megs more of PC133. Your not going to see a big increase in performance with 128 megs of DDR because Windows loves memory. Plus, if you were to get DDR you'd have to get a whole new motherboard and so on/so forth. It'd be a pain in the ass. Wait till DDR matures (I should take my own advice).

Agree with mpjesse. An extra 128MB would do you more good than switching to DDR.

go for more ram, I don't know anything about animation but if it involves any rendering you will need at least 256mb

With these dropping memory prices you might even be able to buy 256Mb of PC133 ram instead of 128Mb DDR Ram. (?)
I think 256Mb is becoming the new minimum requirement for todays computer systems.
I read somewhere that the new DDR ram will only have a 10% performance increase.. But if your harddisk is swapping all he time, you won´t notice that..
And i think it is best to wait until "they" have figured all this DDR stuff out and come up with fast and error free motherbords and stuff. Most of the time, a new technology has to mature first, then it is safe to buy.
