ZALMAN CNPS7X blocked by heatsink on AM3+ board?

Hello I have this motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157262

and i am thinking about getting this cpu cooler as it will not cover ram slots. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118093

First off i believe on amd systems this cooler uses the stock bracket/mount so that would be easy :)

The problem is that taller heatsink next to the cpu... do you think the coolers little metal arms(lol) would clear it or not?

If someone has this cooler could they put it up to their board and see how high those "arms" are up?

Thanks

  1. If you get any tower heatsink that has a flexible orientation, so it can rotate and be in parallel with the air flow of the rear case fan, your ram slots will not be blocked. Also, most towers are tall enough so that regular profile ram will fit underneath them.

    Your 2nd link doesn't show a cooler, so I can't tell...
  2. I would like it to have the fan facing the ram. I changed the link so you can see the "arms" i was talking about. I have g skill ripjaws ram and need a nice cooler that can go overtop of them or wont go near them at all

Why not get a Hyper 212 Evo ? It is about the same price, but better performance all around, and it can be oriented the way you want.

It is compatible with all AMD boards of late.

You can install this thing anyway you want like this:

It as as far as I know, the best cooling performance at this price, and is close to products nearly twice its price.
  4. Ok that fan can move up right? just incase it hits the ram?

Have you already purchased ram ? If not, be sure to get the low profile ones (the ones that doesn't have a tall heatsink sticking out the back like a dinosaur).
