My hp compag 7600 wont start

The power button is actually read by a running program. That program can get messed up with a quick power hit. Unplug the computer. Make sure the plug is removed. wait a minute to be sure the power is gone then plug in. Hit the power button normally. There's a chance things will work.

If not, please listen to things carefully when you power up. Is the fan on the power supply spinning? Are any of the fans spinning? Does the monitor come out of power save. What, if anything, happens. IF there was a hardware fail, then different parts failing will have different results and the people here can guess what's broken and tell you how to confirm.
