I've just finished my first PC build, with an AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition, and the stock cooler is not only way too loud, it has a dodgy clip which barely hooks on to my motherboard.

So I'm looking for a cooler which is a bit quieter (doesn't have to be really quiet, just not like a jet engine), and it also needs to be able to be installed onto my motherboard without taking it out of the case. I really don't want to have to unplug and remove everything.

Also needs to be small, since there's little room in my case. Cheap is also a plus, obviously.

Suggestions from http://pccasegear.com would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

ps. How do I remove my current cooler? That thermal paste is rock hard :S

To remove the old cooler .
Start computer run prime 95 for about 5 minutes to heat the CPU amd TIM.
turn off computer .
Undo the clips.
Gently twist the cooler clockwise then counter clockwise a few times.
Lift off cooler.
Clean thoroughly with 70% isopropal alcohol and a lint free cloth.

I was under the impression that you have to use 90 percent isopropal alcohol or does that not matter?

70%alcohol and 30% water.
Easily available.
90% is much harder to find and is 10%water.
Both work well but 70% takes a little more elbow grease to get good results.
Pure acetone (nail polish remover) works best but is a lot more expensive. Do not get anything with a "Scent" added. I buy it by the guart at the hardware store but use it for other things also.

Marine stove alcohol or denatured alcohol also work well if you have them available and dont have to buy them.

So if I do get another CPU cooler I'll have to take my motherboard out of the case? Might not then .. my GPU was ridiculously hard to get in because the case is really too small.
