I'd like to upgrade my CPU: current motherboard is an Asus M4A88TD-V USB3 880G and I'd like to upgrade it to run the fastest possible CPU (NOT overclocked at this stage). It currently has a Phenom II X2 560 3.3GHz - this has a power rating of 80W.

Was looking at the Phenom II X6 1100T 3.3GHz and that's rated at 125W

Would the latter be much faster than for former?

Is the latter the fastest available for this motherboard? (AM3 CPU socket)

Would the latter work okay in this motherboard bearing in mind the power rating?

Note: am using a 600W PSU

Thanks

It should be faster , amazon has the 1090t at 159.0 , I have both 1100 and 1090 , no difference between them , unless you are some robotron that can measure 1000th of a sec difference in performance .
So far both cpu have been great , handle everything thrown at it , save loads of time over my old dual cores . Jobs that took 30 minutes are over in 7 . Even play all the games my son throws at them at very decent frame rates . I use a 550 watt PSU and a 650 watt PSU ,Antec and OCZ

Thanks very much, sounds like the PSU is okay then.

Now to find out how much faster the X6 1100T is compared to the X2 560. :)

I went from an Operon 185 dual core and the difference is fantastic . Depending on what you're doing the difference can be huge . Video converting encoding , C A D photoshop fly compared to dual core . Programs install 9in the blink of the eye . I provably save a few weeks a year time wise .
