Sony Vaio sound problems

A friend has a Sony Vaio on which the sound works for normal windows
accessories, but not for an application of mine written using BCB and which
uses the BCB mediaplayer widget; just no sound at all. This app works on
every other computer I've tried it on. I'd appreciate hearing from anybody
with a clue of any sort as to what's happening.
