Hello all and thanks for the help ahead of time,
My wife's Hp pavilion started acting up and I've deemed it as the motherboard going bad. So the mobo that came with it is a Violet6-GL8E http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01925562&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en#N251 and I have found this Asus http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Asus+-+M5A78L-M+LX+PLUS+Desktop+Motherboard+-+AMD+760G+Chipset+-+Socket+AM3%2B/4662729.p?id=1218500932038&skuId=4662729&st=AM3+%20socket%20motherboard&cp=1&lp=6 to replace it. What I would like to know is if this is going to work. I know the main difference I found was 2 memory slots vs 4, and that'll take my wifes ram down to 4gb instead of the 6 that came with it. I dont think it will matter for what she uses it for (facebook, corel photo programs, and internet browsing) Other than the ram from what I read it'll be fine but I gotta ask the pros :)

Solution
Looks like it will fit.
This MSI 760GM-E51 (FX) AM3+ AMD 760G HDMI Micro ATX AMD Motherboard will fit with all the screws and give you back the 4 memory slots for only $55 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813130634 ).
Or, given the choice I would go with this GIGABYTE GA-B75M-D3H LGA 1155 Intel B75 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard for $75 ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128555 ), I know it's a little more than the one you are looking at but with the faster memory and pcie 3.0, and not to mention the sata 3 and usb 3. It is easily upgraded down the road instead of buying a new one. Plus, I'm inclined to go with a manufacturer I trust for dependable products (my...

It doesn't look like the hole pattern, (where it screws down to the inside of the case), is going to match up. Looks like the three screws by the backplate line up but none of the other ones do. Also, does the case allow for the backplate hole in the case to reach all the way to the top of the new motherboard so you can use all the back I/O connectors? Based on what I see I don't think it will.

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/MSI+-+760GM-P23+%28FX%29+Desktop+Motherboard+-+AMD+760G+Chipset+-+Socket+AM3%2B/4583929.p?id=1218492366042&skuId=4583929&st=AM3+%20socket%20motherboard&cp=1&lp=7

Is the new choice after looking at the mobo of choice and the current one the screws will line up it just short 2 but because of the shorter width its good. As for the backplate connections its open and will be fine after I switch them and even so the current one has the punchout's for them. Any other possible things to stop this from working?
