Computer screen will not appear without several tries turning on and offt

Hello, suddenly my pc laptop monitor will not appear when i turn the comuter on. after several tries turning on and off, it appears but says the date and time must re re-set. it shows a random date and time from 2009. i correct the date and time but if i turn the computer off or let it hibernate, the same thing happens and i correct the date and time again, etc. i have a dell inspiron 1526 and am using vista home

my pc does the same thing, I asked a few friends and they say the screens just refreshing.

But the date problem sounds like a motherboard battery problem
