Hey guys,

After saving up to a decently generous budget (~1.5k - 2k CAD) and doing my fair share of research, I have arrived at the current build.

(Sorry for the poor edit job... :kaola:. Prices in CAD from Newegg.ca)

Any input on opinions and issues with my build would be lovely!

I would like to SLI and oc the i7 (which means an extra HSF) in the near future.

I know there are more economical choices (namely the famous 2x 560 Ti) than the 580, but I really want a powerful build, but currently can't afford two cards. And when I SLI I want to be sure I have a good pair of powerful cards.

Also I would've really liked to get an SSD, but may not have enough budget room in the current build.

Thanks a bundle!

The rest of your build is fine....BUT

Your 580 is costing you $529...i got two 560ti's for 499 on newegg. That can save you $30

Your case is 259....the Cooler Master 690II($89) for up to 10 fans...that saves $170

The 2600K is costing you $309 when you could get the 2500K for 219 (equal performance as 2600K when gaming) that saves you $90....
Check benchmarks....or ask anyone else on this forum and they will tell you to save your money

Complete savings of $290 US dollars (whatever that is in your currency i dunno) :)

You could darn near (lol) SLI some 570's with that savings

Are you saying that you are gonna buy a GTX 580 since you cant afford 2 cards because 2 GTX 560ti's equal the same price as one GTX580...ssssOOooOOoo.....just get the 60's unless you really want the 580 and spend another 4-$500 down the road to sli.

If your doing gaming the you could save alot of money and just get the i5 2500K because the 2600K isnt really any better when it comes to game performance....so that money saved could help go towards your video card or your ssd

NOT TO MENTION you are spending waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much money on a case...there is no need for that as cases around 150-175 and even less can give you quality builds with cable management and cooling options...spending to much money on pieces where you could be gaining elsewhere

Hey jeremy thank you very much for the suggestions!

Right after posting my original message I've updated my build...with a slightly cheaper but still high quality case, enough room to convince me to add an ssd.

For the 580, I do plan to add another for SLI later on. I figured since not every game out there right now takes advantage of multigpu tech, the dual 560 actually would fall in performance compared to the 580 for those non multigpu optimized games. When I do decide to get the second 580, the SLI setup should dwarf the dual 560 in performance. I know trying to future-proof is stupid, but it's a pretty near future...

I actually decided this build completely around the i7. Here's my reason... I am an avid Microsoft Flight Simulator X fan. The game is actually more dependent on the cpu than it is on the gpu. Any FSX fan with a decent collection of high res after-market sceneries and effects will tell you that an i7 is almost a must in order to enjoy that game at that level of detail. I mean sure the i7 would be excessive for other games, but I wouldn't want my machine to under-perform on a game that I want to enjoy the most.

As for the case, I've read a lot of great things about the 650D. The CM690 is also another great case, but there is just something about Coolermaster designs (visually) that bugs the heck out of me. Call me a ricer, but I'd rather pay a premium now so I can enjoy looking at that brushed aluminum and sleek lines than a plastic spaceship for the next 5 years.

I may spring for a modular power supply, but other than that, is there anything bad about the ssd that I chose? I know that particular one has an issue with the initial firmware that it ships with, but there are already fixes ready for that problem. Oh and also, will the 850W power a second 580 when I do decide to get it?

Thanks a bundle!
