This build is set up so that you have the option of adding another one of those cards later on for SLI. That's a 16+2 phase board and will give you a high and stable o/c.

  2. I really like both of these builds. I think I favor "Why_Me's" build because I prefer a stronger GPU over the SSD.

The only thing I'm unsure about is the memory. Cas 9 seems kinda high. Or does that make the memory much more stable?

With the Scythe CPU cooler how high of an overclock would you say is reasonable on the 2500k? around 4.2ghz?

    Thanks for your reply's.

4.2ghz? Shame on you!!! :pfff: Try more like 4.6 - 4.8ghz.

As far as the RAM goes... CAS9 is fine with these 1155 boards seeing how o/c the RAM is pretty much non existent these days. The cpu multi is isolated and non dependent on the RAM for over clocking. That RAM will do just fine. If you want some RAM with a little bit more pick up, then this down below.

Also you can add another fan to that Scythe h/s for a push pull effect which in turn brings the temps down even more. Add some decent thermal paste to it like MX-2 or TX-2...or any decent thermal paste and your good to go.
  4. ya the mugen 3 is a great cpu cooler.
  5. oh btw, the motherboard i posted has 20+2 phases for even higher oc's. you will find that you want to try to reach 5.0ghz sooner or later....

  7. Would this work well as an extra fan for the Scythe SCMG-3000?

scythe Model: sy1225sl12mp <----that's what's on that fan now. I would try and get the same fan or something similar for that push - pull. If you see that fan on newegg, and then magnify the picture of it you will see the model # on the front of the fan.
