What would be a good video card for world of warcraft on max settings?

I just bought this computer a couple months ago and im fine with it right now but it's lacking graphics. I play wow on "Fair" settings with 30-60 fps. Im looking for a video card that can play wow on "Max" settings and still be at a good fps and costs less then 200$. I'm using an Asus desktop here are my system specs http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883220044
It would be also good if i could get a card from best buy/fry's instead of getting one through mail.

  1. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/world-of-warcraft-cataclysm-directx-11-performance,2793.html have a read through this. What is your resolution, and do note that your system only has a 400 watt psu which will limit your choices.

Essentially you should be looking at either a 6850 or a 460 768 (not se!) at around $150 and buying a brand psu to replace the one in there right now. For example the antec neo eco is after mir $44. I'm no expert on PSUs so I hope someone else can chime in on them.

I'm curious about recommending the 768mb and not the SE. The SE performs between the 768 and the 1gb.
  3. Guess it depends on what reviews you read. The ones I read however pretty much state that unless you are running at a higher resolution (1080) and AAx8, where the extra memory is used, the missing SM will cause it to run slower than the 768. Since the SE also costs more than the 768, unless you play at 1080 with high AA, I find it hard to recommend. As always though prices change all the time!

It seems to be game dependent, but you are right, although, given the store he is buying it from, the cost for the 768 model is way too high compared to the SE version.
  6. @joey what resolution do you play at? The best thing to do, would be to open the case and take a picture of the power supply sticker which lists all the amps /rail. This way we can know for sure.

Right now I'm just going exactly with your budget of $200. Since both the 6850 and 460 suggest 450-500watts I would still stick with my recommendation of buying a $150 gfx combined with a $50ish psu.
