My cousin and I have built an AMD rig yesterday, and it's constantly freezing and locking up. It does not blue screen or restart itself, it just freezes until you reset it. It was based off of a defected M5A87 before and it's on an Asus M5A88-V EVO motherboard right now. Here are the specs.

AMD Phenom II x4 955 CPU @3.2Ghz
Asus M5A88-V EVO MOBO
G.SKILL Ripjaws (2x4GB)
XFX 6870 1GB HD687AZNFC
1TB Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM
Cooler Master Hyper 212+ Cooler
Cooler Master 650w Power Supply

Here is a picture of the HWMONITOR stats after it froze: http://i.imgur.com/bRxCM.jpg
And a screenshot of how long it lasted in Prime95 before a freeze (4:48): http://i.imgur.com/yXoZH.jpg

Try taking out one ram stick, try again, then use the other RAM stick in slot 1.

and your power supply, What series of CM is it? Because some of cooler masters older series power supplies aren't good.

I had problems with my RIG trying to break the 4 GHz barrier on a 955 BE. It turned out that I wasn't able to run my G.Skill at 1600 MHz, I dropped it down to 1333 MHz and I'm sitting stable at 4.2 GHz now.

problem solved. got rid of the board, CPU and ram. got a nice gigabyte board with another x4 955 and exchanged the ram. it works perfectly now.
