Ati hdmi output not plugged in and they can't hear me

I have a laptop that is hp pavilion dv6. On the box it says AMD M880G with ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4250. I am a retard when it comes to things like this but in my control sounds files, playback tab, the ATI HDMI OUTPUT is "not plugged in"... WTHoot is the deal with this... I skype my family and they can't hear me but I can hear them... I record something with the webcam and when I play it back I see lips moving but cannot hear any words!!! It use to work and then suddenly stopped working.... I have no clue what needs to be plugged in or where to plug it in, IF it needs to be plugged in... I think I need to download something or heck I don't know... does anyone??? PLEASE any advise is greatly apperciated!!! Thank you =D

Look for microphone in your sound settings and make sure it is activated.

It is active the one that is not active is the one that looks like a tv... and the headphone ones are active
