Hi everyone.
I'm considering buying a laptop/notebook computer and I'd like to know
what to look for. I've heard the M chip is the best out today. Is this
true? I used to hear that AMD was not so hot, but I now hear that it's
comparable to the Pentium chip. I need help on what I should be looking
for. It would be mainly for surfing the web, email, instant messaging
chat with video and maybe a game or two.

The "game or two" is likely to be the deciding factor. What particular
games do you have in mind? Many have rather heavy video-processor
requirements and the availability of a suitable video processor may be the
controlling factor.
Beyond that, while the AMD chips themselves have good performance and their
power consumption is the same as or less than a Pentium M, the other system
components for the Pentium M were designed by Intel specifically to work
with it in a laptop configuration and optimized for low power consumption,
while the AMD relies on third-party chipsets that so far have been more
general-purpose in nature, so the power consumption of the machine in which
it is installed will not be as low as for a Pentium M that uses the Intel
chipset. If you need high performance video that requires an ATI or nvidia
GPU then I suspect that the AMD and Intel will start to pull even on
battery life--the Intel package includes Intel's own embedded video which
works but isn't what anyone other than Intel would call "high performance"
and the third-party video pretty much negates the advantage of the Intel
low power chips.

Yeah go for the Pentium. I just got a P4 myself. No "celery" or
"amd" for me (grin).

You made the worst of all possible choices then. Even Intel has given up on
the P4 as a laptop chip--that's why they brought out the Pentium M.
