Mobo Pcie question

I am just starting to get all the parts for my new computer build right now, and I never thought much about the difference between x16 and x8 pcie slots. My mobo will run x8/x8 if I sli my cards. How much would that affect my system's performance if I am only using 1 monitor?

It'll run about 2% slower than if it did at x16.

Even with high powered cards, like the GTX 680 or the HD 7970, you don't lose too much performance running your cards in 2.0 x8 mode... with a worse card the hit would be even less noticeable, since you're not saturating the bus on slower modes anyways.

Thanks a lot for the quick responses. The .5-2% difference isnt substantial enough for me to spend another 200 on a motherboard
