How much should i be spending on a psu?

planning a new build spending about £700 but i don't know if its a bit stupid spending more on my psu than my cpu.
The cpu is the amd phenom II 955 the psu is the corsair 750hx modular should i be spending a lot less than £110 on my psu?

More about spending
  1. Really depends on what gpu(s) you plan on using.
A 650W is plenty for most systems.
750W are usually required for higher end set-ups .
Semi-modular is nice and costs a bit more.
  2. yeah i need 750w i think i will get semi modular but i get 7 year warranty with the corsair

What graphics card(s) will you be using?
  4. either a 560 ti or 6950 but will cf / sli next year

That particular unit is pretty good for a mainstream user.
It's not crap but a level below Seasonic,Corsair,Antec, and XFX.
Btw i run a Corsair HX-750 in my main rig and use OZC ModX's in two other rigs.
OZC's offer a very good value price/performance wise.
They're quiet and reliable in my experience.
I often recommend them for those on a budget.
If you can pony up extra cash i recommend XFX.
  6. can you switch off the led?

    Yep you're dead on then,you need a 750W
XFX is made by Seasonic and has higher quality internals then an OZC.

    Nope! not without messing internally.
  9. this ones modular so is it worth saving £20 for xfx instead of corsair?

It's the closest unit performance wise to the HX and cost less.
It's a Seasonic M12D rebadged more or less.
Up to you to decide, both units are excellent.
  11. okay i think ill get the xfx thanks for your help
