:o  My girlfriend has been looking at this $350 glorified net book but isn't sold on a laptop as a platform.

I decided to see if I could build a system on the same budget that would blow it out of the water on performance. We don't play games, mostly, facebook, youtube, flash games at best. This is what I came up with.

MD Athlon II X3 435, heatsink, fan. $61.89
GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H mobo $105
Crucial c300 64gb hd $115
gskill ripjaw 2x4gb memory $70
Use ATX Dell case we already own
Use ATX Dell Powersupply we already own
Use IDE cdburner we already own.

We have screens, mice, keyboards.

Prices include shipping. Total $351.89

What do you think. Is this the best bang for that $350 buck?

Wow that deal looks good. Sacrifice a bit of hard drive and memory speed for a much better processor and throw in a new cd drive psu and case to boot. nice find.

I agree, I just convinced my sister to buy the same kit plus Win 7 for a new PC I'll be putting together this weekend.
