Which is Better ?

Hi everyone just looking for some general advice on the following motherboards:

Intel d975xbx - http://www.intel.com/products/motherboard/d975xbx/index.htm

Asrock g31m-s - http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-S/

Gigabyte g31m-es2l - http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=3485#ov

Which would you recommend to run the rest of my hardware:

OCZ fatal1ty 550W PSU - http://www.ocztechnology.com/ocz-550w-fatal1ty-series-power-supply.html

Sapphire HD 5770 Vapor-X Overclock Edition - http://www.overclockersclub.com/reviews/sapphire_hd5770_vaporx_overclock/

Intel Core 2 Extreme Processor X6800 - http://ark.intel.com/products/27258/Intel-Core2-Extreme-Processor-X6800-(4M-Cache-2_93-GHz-1066-MHz-FSB)

The goal is to run BF3 as best as possible.

  1. I'm confused here, I feel like I got stuck in a time machine.

Question, is this a 'new' build??!! Personally, you are putting money in 5 year old 'stuff' and a GPU like the HD 5770 or X6800 aren't even produced any longer.

Ideally, BF3 runs best with 8GB of RAM on an LGA 1155 MOBO, Sandy or Ivy Bridge processor, and the newer GTX 600 or HD 7000 series GPU's.

    So please explain some more...
  2. I thought the same :)

gillhaj, as jaquith said, if the question is to significantly help you out with running games faster then (within reason!) it's not really the motherboard choice (for your current components) that will help you - it's primarily the CPU and GFX card and a reasonable RAM size.

--> why are you loking for a motherboard replacement?
--> we need more info to help you better.
  3. Thanks for the replies guys apologies that I wasn't clear in the original post I'm currently running the hardware above with the d975xbx mobo but also have the other 2 lying around my place so was wondering if I was to switch the mobo would I see an increase in performance ? I can run BF3 it just has a few issues here and there

    ^+1 @mesab66

I agree it's 'primarily' the CPU & GPU(s) and amount of RAM, but also keep in mind the e.g. GTX 670/66Ti or HD 7950/7970 is going to be bottlenecked by the 'ideal' GPU(s) for BF3 with your X6800. My best 'bottlenecked' guess is 25%~40% over a current Intel 2-core or higher CPU. As far as any of the MOBO's any that will support 8GB of RAM e.g. 4x2GB DDR2; anything >4GB requires a 64-bit OS.

BF3's RAM usage: (3.0GB~3.5GB BF3 & Map + 3.0GB~3.5GB Shared RAM to GPU(s) + 1.0GB~1.5GB OS and Background Apps) or 8GB is the minimum 'ideal' amount of RAM.
