I have an opportunity to buy my mates old Graphics card. its a Radeon HD5870.
currently i have a Radeon HD5770.

is it possible to crossfire these cards? one of my (not so friend) friends, is Xfiring a 6970 and a 6990
so can i xfire a 5870 and 5770?

or would it be best to just buy the card for the slight update?

Solution
Even if it were possible, the 5870 would be run at the far slower speeds/throughput of the 5770.

But as the 5870 offers a full 50% increase in framerates over the 5770, and just about ties the stock clocked 560Ti models, I'd grab it if the price is right...

Your friend is able to 3 way XFire because the 6990 is basically a pair of 6970s on a single card, so is compatible with adding yet another 6970....
