I read about Thunderbolt in Wikipedia but I don't really understand what it's for. Do I really need it? I will have the Dell U3011 monitor (2560 x 1600).

Otherwise, do these two boards perform the same? I will be doing 3D content-creation (3DS Max, modo, etc).
