With improved drivers, do you think GTX 590 SLI will eventually outperform GTX 580 TRI-SLI?

I think it will because four 590 GPUs (590 SLI) = more total power (even if the four 590 GPUs may individually be a little slower than the three individual 580 GPUs (580 TRI-SLI)).

Opinions?

having 2 gtx590's is like strapping 2 rockets to your back instead of one, to get to the corner store a little faster. Uber overkill. Can someone give me a good reason (apart from having an obsessive compulsive disorder to have the best of everything) that a person should require 2x gtx 590's for gaming?

Since a GTX470M beats a GTX480M, No.

ahh fair enough i thought you were trying to bash my gtx 480 lol.
but of course AMD did the same with 6800 series.....

lol of course not.
But you should really check benches, its really silly how much slower the GTX480M is compared to the GTX470M.
At least with AMD they didn't make the 6950 a slower card compared to the 6870. XD

One such reason would be if you were powering 3 monitors at 1920x1200.

While this is testing tri-fire/sli setups, it does show that even tri-fire isn't always enough.

Now keep in mind, if you were to use two 590's for a quad-SLI setup, some games will see improvements, and some won't.

thanks uber....
how those 580's treating you.?

Great. Thanks for asking. Because of them, I'm in the market for 120Hz monitors.

I'm waiting for more 27" 3D monitors to arrive; not so much for the 3D, but more for the 120Hz. Not many places carry them and those that do run out of stock nearly instantly.

if so then is the 3-monitor surround 3D only, that's the question.?

Surround 3D can run like eyefinity. It doesn't have to be 3D.

this is out of control with 'kids' and 'newbies' and the GTX 590 and HD 6990 bull-siit..
one let alone two GTX 580's in SLI is all anyone should need.
take the money and spend it on upgrading surrounding hardware.

personally SLI GTX 570's is enough for me..

but NO, the GTX 590 is and always be crap in my book and I'm more of a nVidia fan than AMD.
yes I have both..

There is a very good reason to go with either 590 SLI, 6990 CF, or 580 TRI-SLI.......because they are the best graphics solutions at the moment!

how is quad sli the best you can get?
stupid comment from a newbie

You're trying to compare a GTX 480 to GTX 590 SLI?

Talk about a newbie!

LOL!!

GTX 590 SLI is a far far more powerful and future-proof solution.

no it's not

Yeah, you wish. Go overclock your GTX 480 all you want. It will never reach the performance level of a stock GTX 590 (not to mention GTX 590 SLI, which absolutely crushes a GTX 480 and GTX 480 SLI).

Really, why am I even arguing about this. This is a ridiculous comparison and it's really just a waste of my time arguing about it.

Anyone should read HardOCP's conclusion page (and the article's benchmarks) rather carefully.

Twin 590s or twin 6990s..both solutions cost well above what I would *ever* consider paying, and two of them? Not a chance.....

If Mr. Viper2 believes twin 590s are the 'best' $1500 graphics solution for single monitor gaming, by all means, ....let him happily purchase it/them

(I would assume/hope the 590's dual-GPU successor will have 2-3 GB per GPU to better allow tri-monitor gaming without 1.5 GB mem framebuffer limitations)

(I will concede the 590, if/when it can be found at $699, a more 'value'/cost effective solution than SLI['d 580s)
