i7 has hyper threading, so it performs better in applications that support it such as cinema 4d. But right now you have an i5-2500k so just oc it to 4.5ghz

I am using a stock heat sink for cooling. Last time I OC'ed only 20% my game crashed followed by a bios warning. This was at a measly 3.6GHz

Stock heatsinks are not meant for overclocking.

If you want to OC, then investment money in a heatsink that will allow you to do so.
