Looking to get comfortable breathing room for 2 high powered video cards, ie 2 6970s or 570s, with plenty of room for overclocking. I'm interested in the Corsair HX850, just wanted to be sure before I pull the trigger.

More about : reason 850w sli

Both cards (X2) pull about 30 amps under load, peaking at 40 amps. Figure another 10 amps for an OC'd CPU and another 100 watts for the rest of the system, the HX850 will do nicely.

There is a lot of reason to go over 850w.

PSUs last the longest and work most efficiently at 50% load.

If you think that your SLId setup will take more than 60% of that 850 at load (!530w), you might want to get a bigger PSU.

Doing so will keep the heat inside your PSU down, make it last longer, and save you money on power bills.
