do you think i will be able to use my radeon hd5670 1gb ddr3, as a discrete card with a amd a8 3850 processor or would you only be able to use the three on the box,

thanks

isnt it a little pointless if only three cards will ever work with it

Im not really understanding you here... Only 3 cards will work in crossfire with the IGP, but any discrete card will work with this processor...

Yes, but it would be pointless because if you have a discrete card you'd do better buying a Phenom.

i am not quite sure what you mean by '3 on the box'. any pcie gfx card will work with an a8-3850.
however, amd lets users use an entry level discreet gfx card cfx with a8's igp as a hybrid cfx mode for additional performance. iirc those cards were hd 6570, 6670.. something like that. although the additional performance gain might be minimal - for example combining a 6670 with gddr5 and a 6550 with ddr3 (no g- or ddr5) won't give you a lot of fps in gaming.

Extra fps depends on the game. Also, the "3 on the box" he is referring to are the cards that crossfire with this processor; The 6450, 6570, and 6670.

I have had both an A8-3850 and a phenom 965, the A8-3850 felt exactly the same in games... and with the right memory actually felt a little better, since it supports up to 1866mhz. So it wasnt a disappointment, it would just be smarter for you to get the 955 since its about 10 dollars cheaper lol
