Help me Oh Wise Ones

So I finally got around to building my new machine last week, and now that it's all nicely setup and working I want to start seeing what I can do to get the most out of it....thing is I don't know where to start, especially with there being so many different versions of all the hardware from different companies.

Really what I'm looking for is OC information, as well as any information you guys might have regarding things like recommended settings, or programs I should get that improve processes.

Anything really would be very helpful :) 

My specs are:

Ram: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline Frostbyte 8GB 2X4GB PC3-12800 DDR3-1600 C9-9-9-24 Dual Channel
CPU Cooling: Corsair Cooling Hydro Series H60 High Performance CPU Cooler System
Mobo: ASUS P8Z68-V Pro Z68 LGA1155 ATX 3PCI-E16 2PCI-E1 2 PCI B3 Motherboard
PSU: Corsair Professional Series Gold AX850 CMPSU-850AX 850W ATX Fully Modular 80PLUS Gold Power Supply
CPU: Intel Core i7 2600K Quad Core Unlocked Hyperthreading Processor LGA1155 3.4GHZ Sandy Bridge 8MB
Video Cards x2 SLI: MSI GeForce GTX 560 Ti Hawk OC 950MHZ 1GB GDDR5 Dual DVI Mini-HDMI DX11 PCI-E Video Card
Case cooling: 7 120mm/2000rpm fans

I run a single monitor at 1920x1200, but may add a second one as well.

So far all I have done is all the windows updates, set the video cards to SLI through the nvidia manager and installed the MSI afterburner program as well as the ASUS "suite" that comes on the disc for the motherboard.

Any software recommendations?
Should I overclock? If so, are there any good guides you know of that match my parts?
Anything else?

Sorry to post with nothing useful but good work on the machine sounds like a lot of fun !
edit-wait do you feel like you need more right now ?

if you do not then please I encourage you just read up for a few months
learn everything you can, then ask questions afterwards,
google for a week/month or so, then ask for specifics
I read here for years before stepping away to consoles then coming back and reading again to OC and I feel my PC is still doing well in general

I say you slap on some Crysis 2(if thats your thing) it was mine till I beat it) then crank it up and Enjoy for a bit first

Hello senladar01;

It's always a good idea to do some stock testing and benchmarking.
That way, after the overclock, you have a good idea of what kind of improvement it got for you.

Monitor and record things like your bootup times, idle and load temps, gaming and application performance.

Fair enough, I'll do some testing and see how it plays out.

I booted up Metro 2033 last night, set it to Very High + DX11 + AAA and even though MSI afterburner showed basically 100% GPU usage the entire time, the cards stayed around 88 degrees and I had a solid 40-60fps, which is great cause I hear metro is a GPU whore.

What would a solid temp for the CPU be? I just installed the Corsair Cooling Hydro and the bios is showing 49 degrees.

Hmm, Real Temp 3.6 is giving me different numbers.

Showing 37 degrees, and bumped up to a max of 58 degrees while running the "Prime95" stress test (Windows Task Manager shows 100% CPU usage)

That seems very good, no?

I'll have to do some tests with games...any recommended benchmarking/monitoring programs?

Hmm, is this good? I've never used 3D mark:

You should be able to test and determine which way works best based on changes in temps as you move fans around and change directions.

Your instincts are right you should benchmark/burnin a new system asap but no o'clocking, at least not yet, you do not need to be telling your supplier that it was an o'clock that produced a great big snafu, there are some sites that can assist you in your benchmarking/burnin such as WWW.MAJORGEEKS.COM....:) 

What I did was, I lined two of the fans up one on top of the other so they suck in from the empty area of the hard drive/rom bays and blow across the video cards/hydro cords.

I then added the 3rd fan under the HDD/SSD at an angle blowing up into the case.

So the bottom front fan sucks in and blows it into the 2nd fan which re-directs it up rather then straight onto the PSU.

Was running Metro 2033 for a good hour and didn't go over 41 CPU and 81 GPU, plus it's much quieter then having the fans on the side panel (And I hate having them there for access reasons....)
