What Motherboard?

Hey, my friends upgrading some parts for his PC which is primary used for gaming. So far he's getting the 3570K CPU (Looking at the price and specifications this would seem like the best value gaming CPU out right now). But we're not sure on what Motherboard to go for. Since he's only going to be using it for gaming for the next few years what motherboard would you recommend? He might want to do some overclocking down the line to extend the life of the CPU so he'll want a semi good overclocking board. Any suggestions?

So far he's looking at

3570K CPU <--- buying as upgrade
8GB RAM <--- buying as upgrade
Windows 7 x64 <--- buying as upgrade
Cosair 550watt <--- already owns
ATI 6950 <--- already owns
500GB HDD <--- already owns

Thanks in advance for the replies.

More about what motherboard
  1. Best of the best for your platform.

    ASUS Maximus V EXTREME $389.00
  2. Budgets about £80 not sure how that translates into dollars. Does he really need the Z77 chip set? I assume that's the new high end? That MB you linked is £112 so a little over budget.

if he wants to overclock that "K" chip than yes a Z77 mobo since there really isn't a Z75 option over on that side of the pond.
    MSI Z77A-G45 £78.92 Inc VAT
that will be good for the budget.
  4. Ok thanks for the replies.
  5. We've also found this for a similar price that has an extra 12 months warranty. It doesn't support SLI but I doubt he'll be using it anyway.
