Do I need to format my Hard drive for mobo upgrade?

So I installed everything, like the drivers and a TON of programs on a hard drive which was using a p8z68-v pro mobo. It crashed so I am returning it and getting a p8z68-v pro/gen3 mobo now. Do I really need to format my hard drive, or can I boot off the hard drive just fine?

  1. you can boot off of it right away and might not even have to update/reinstalling the drivers. the only difference is the gen3; not a different chipset AFAIK.

The only difference between the two motherboards is the addition of PCI-E 3.0 support when using an Ivy Bridge CPU on the P8Z68-V PRO/GEN3.

They both use exactly the same Intel Z68 Express Chipset and all of the other support chips like audio, Marvell and JMicron SATA controller are also exactly the same.

It should be plug and play.
