New build not performing? Please help me

Hello,

I have recently built a new gaming system with some 2nd hand graphics cards but I feel that it should be performing much better than it is.

e.g. Windows recommends disabling Aero theme to improve performance?

I'm fairly new to this so any suggestion would be much appreciated

Intel Core i7 960 3.2GHz 8MB Cache CPU
Asus Rampage III Formula
SilverStone ST85F-P 850W Strider Plus Power Supply
Corsair TR3X6G1600C8D 6GB (3x 2GB) PC-12800 (1600MHz) DDR3
Seagate SATAIII 2TB Barracuda 64mb Cache
2 x GTX480 in SLI twin fan

First of all, you could have build a better gaming PC with those money! That of course doesn't mean that this is a bad!

As for perfomance, install the latest drivers and run passmark to see and compare CPU Perfomance. As for graphics perfomance you can run 3d mark but I think it doesn't support SLI, so what you' ll see is for one 480

Time to pull out the benchmarks and test and compare your system.

If Windows suggests turning off Aeor features, then something is definately wrong with your graphics card installation.
