Hey I am building my first computer and was wondering about the amount of RAM I should use.

I will be gaming on my computer and want to know if I should go with 8 GB or 16GB of RAM.

My Mobo is a DDR3

Depends on what you can afford. 8GB seems to be the sweet spot, but theres never anything wrong with having more. I currently have 2 x 8GB sticks. Do I need them? Probably not. Is it nice having them? Damn skippy.

I had 8 GB for a while and recently upgraded to 16 GB and for gaming I cant tell a difference, however load times might be slightly faster. I would say get 8 GB if money is an issue and put the rest of the money into a better video card.

What OS are you using?

Even if Win 7 HP is 64bit, it's limited to 16Gb, to use more than 16Gb you need Win 7 pro/enterprise/ultimate 64bit.

If all you need is RAM (assuming you have win 7/vista 64 bit) then I would get 16 GB.

+1

The extra memory above 8GB will make no difference to your current gameplay (unless you normally multitask heavily while gaming and your cpu is up to all tasks).

For most folk 8GB is more than enough.......are you most folk?? if not, give us more info.

16GB is Hugely alot but depends on your working situation..if your going to play intensive games like GTA IV then 8 or even 16 would be good but if your going with BF3 and skyrim and those games..then 8GB will be enough :)

Thanks for the help.

The games I play will include. Black Ops 2, BF3, TF2, Airmech, Blacklight, and Dayz.

If I was to go with the 16 GB of RAM I would choose these.

Which is more worth the money and Better for Gaming.

This is just me but I prefer dual channel RAM unless your mobo has 6 slots. And for the games you have mentioned I would just get 8GB (you can always buy another set of 2x4GB RAM if you need it).

For what you need I would say no. In a year or two you can get 2 more sticks of 4GB if you need it.
