ok so i'm wanting a cpu for my 2 pcs, one with a 6950 and the other has a 560 ti. both have 8gbs of ram.
Now i got a great deal on 2 AMD Phenom II X4 955's, but since i want a top of the range gaming pc, will they do the job?
also, what is the highest overclock i could do with air cooling?
games in specific:
Battlefield 3
Skyrim
Crysis 2
Dragon Age
Rage
Assassins creed revelations

Cheers

Yes, they will work great with those GPUs. You should be able to easily get 3.6 ghz from the 955, more or less. Every CPU is different though, there are no guarantees.
However, I wouldn't call those systems "Ultra" gaming machines, they are going to be very nice mid-range systems that should run all those games a good amount of detail level.
To me, an "Ultra" machine is something like a i5 or i7 running at 4.8ghz and at least 3 high end cards in SLI or Crossfire,
See my signature, I think mine falls somewhere in the upper mid range. I wouldn't even consider it as high end.

hey if you have 2 card can you tell which card you like most..?
About processor, AMD will be fine but if you go with Intel it will be more beneficial...

@rockxdude i personally prefer the 560 ti, but i think both are really good gpu's.

a phenom x4 isnt really comparable to a 2500k as theres quite a price difference, a phenom x4 generally gets to 4ghz or near there and while the 2500k is better it wont make that much of a difference for gaming if youre at a reasonable resoulution

A HD 6870, and there's a reason it matches the performance a a GTX 560 whilst using less power than a GTX 460.

Quality.
