I saw newegg was reducing prices on 460s and 6850s the MSI hawk talon attack 810mhz gtx4601gb is 134 after rebate. I was going to get the MSI or EVGA 460 or a XFX 6850. Does anyone have a recommendation or recommend a 6870? I don't like spending more than 180 on a graphics card.

Which one is quieter in terms of electrical components and cooler?

the 6850 uses less power. performance is pretty similar between 6850 and gtx460. the 6870 is faster obviously but costs more. I have a powercolour 6850 (pcs cooler edition) and it runs cool and quiet. The gigabyte windforce has about the best cooler for the 6850's.

I had a Powercolor 6850 like the poster above, I can back him up with his points.
I used one 6850 to replace my GTX470's while I was testing my PC for bad components (which happens to be BOTH of my GTX470's which I still use anyway), and the 6850 happily chugged along with decent framerates at high graphical settings during full HD gaming in games like Crysis, Fallout new vegas, DiRT 3 etc..

-Your price range kinda points towards having a browse at local used cards as well.

I have 2 systems with single hd-4870 cards. They play pretty much every game out there at 1080p with decent framerates. They are a common card to see for sale used when people upgrade. $50-$70 for a used 4870 can't be beat.
The 4870 is a bit faster than the 5770 and 6770, it is closer to the 280/285, 460se, 5830 and 6790 in speed. The drawback is the 4870 is as large as the 6970 or 570 and uses almost the same amount of power.
There is a risk with used, and you should see it working first and playing some new games.

-Some other good used cards,, the geforce 275 to 285, 460, 5830-5870.

some cards that usually have cooling issues,,,8800gtx, 295, 4870x2, geforce480, 590. The 9800gx2, and 4850x2 also have 2 gpus.
Be careful with those cards used. Make sure if you do check one out that both gpus are working in the driver menu, both the 4870x2 and 295 are known to still work ok on one gpu, but it makes the card the same as the single gpu card in that mode.

-some used sli or crossfire pairs can be good deals if you have a crossfire or sli board. something like a pair of 260's or 4870's or 4850's are pretty good too.

Overclocked GTX 460's have proven to be a great value, with high performance, and very cool and quiet operation.

The MSI GTX 460 Hawk Talon Attack is a very special card with customized PCB, enhanced power phases, and upgraded cooling to allow for extreme triple overvoltage overclocking. When pushed near its limits, the Talon Attack will perform similar to cards costing much more. In my opinion, it would just be a lot of fun to get a Talon Attack and see just how far you can take it.
