Hi, my im building a gaming rig but dont know much about proccesors please help me chose, heres my rig...

GC: msi radeon hd 6950
RAM: 6gb ddr3 1600mhz
MOTHER BOARD: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68
POWER: ASUS Maximus IV Gene-Z LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA
200GB HARD DRIVE.

WHAT WOULD BE THE BEST PROCESSOR TO PLAY GAMES LIKE BATTLEFIELD 3 ON MAX SETTINGS?

The I5 2500K is much faster than a Phenom II X4 or X6 in gaming.

If your going for a high end set up with high performance video cards your going to want the stronger processor. The I5 wins at stock settings, and the margin of victory will increase if you overclock, because it'll clock further. While doing this it also consumes less power, and has a socket/platform with more hope of good future upgrades.

If you were going to go AMD, you would need a different MOBO and I would just say get the 955 or 965 instead of the 1100T. If you have the money for the i5-2500k, dont even think about it, it will serve you better in games than AMD

This one’s easy. Aliens Vs. Predator doesn’t give a damn about the CPU under your hood. Even at 1680x1050, there are about four frames per second difference between the 10 tested configurations. Feed this one GPU power and it’s good to go.
